For those of you who don't know much about chai, here is a little lesson. Chai usually refers to masala chai, which is a flavored tea beverage usually made by brewing black tea with a mixture of aromatic Indian spices and herbs. It originated in India, but it's gained worldwide popularity and is now featured in many coffee and tea houses.
Today we are putting a little twist on a traditional chai and we are making Cold Brew Chai. Cold Brew Chai is super easy to make in the KitchenAid; Cold Brew Coffee Maker, which I love by the way.
It is one of my favorite appliances because it doesn't take up a lot of space in my refrigerator, but it also makes a ton of servings. It's designed to make coffee or tea concentrate. The Cold Brew Coffee Maker brews up to 800ml of concentrate, which is about 14 servings. Can I get a round of applause for that?
1. Assemble KitchenAid Cold Brew Coffee Maker.
2. Place 1/2 cup loose chai tea leaves in the steeper basket.
3. Using a circular motion, pour 1.25L water over the chai.
4. Place lid on the KitchenAid Cold Brew Coffee Maker.
5. Put in the fridge. Allow to brew for twelve hours before serving. Once you have finished brewing, remove the steeper and allow the remaining liquid to drain into the brew jar.
6. To serve, use the ratio 1:7, 30ml of tea concentrate to 210ml of water. Adjust to your preferences.
7. Serve with your choice of milk, cream, condensed milk, simple syrup etc.
